Bangladesh PET Flakes Manufacturers and Exporters’ Association (BPFMEA) is an organization comprising of Manufacturers and Exporters of PET Bottle Flakes. The association was formed under the aegis of the Trade Organization having TO License No-19/2006 from the Ministry of Commerce of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The association has been recognized as ‘A’-Category body by The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI), the apex trade organization in Bangladesh.

The Association members are 100% exporters of PET Bottle Flakes. Usually the discarded PET Bottles have no such value and thrown into the municipal dumping stations, which ultimately would create environmental issues if not collected and properly disposed off.
The Association members have been exporting PET Bottle Flakes since 2001mostly to P.R. China, the country first started using such wastes as raw-materials to produce polyester staple fiber (PSF). The PSF are then produced intopolyester spun yarns (PSY) and these PST are then processed to make polyester fabrics.
From the end of 2017 P.R. China banned import of four kinds of waste materials, viz, waste plastics, waste iron, waste-clothes and waste-papers, from all over the world. However, our association members found alternate market in India and started exporting to India since end-2017 and gradually could overcome the effect of the China-ban. The Indian government also imposed similar ban on the import of waste recycled plastics from end of 2019. However, the members did open other new export destination ports in the European Union, USA, Russia and South East Asian countries, mostly to Vietnam, Korea, Thailand and Indonesia. Then came the Covid-19 menace where by all the business activities were suspended in the whole of the year 2020. Today the association members are again attaining to lead the exporting nations from this area by reaching North and South American countries, USA, Brazil etc.
